The Albany County Public Library will host a ghost-hunting event at 7 p.m. tonight in its meeting room as part of its Library After Hours program.
The library will host the event with the Paranormal Hunting and Observation Group of Cheyenne, who will investigate some of the paranormal activity that has allegedly taken place in the library.
“We were looking for an official ghost hunting group and the one in Laramie disbanded. We searched for groups in the region and then we found the Paranormal Hunting and Observation Group,” Library After Hours coordinator Miranda Webster said.
Webster came up with the idea for ghost hunting event after reports of suspected paranormal activity.
“People have heard books falling from shelves after the library is closed, and they’ve seen lights turning off and on by themselves,” Webster said. “Some have also said they’ve heard conversations when there was no one around.”
Webster also discussed the idea for the ghost hunt with community sponsors who decided to get on board with the event.
PHOG will investigate the stories that have been reported by gathering evidence, taking photos and recordings of electronic voice phenomenon, or EVPS. EVPS are voice recordings that cannot be explained and are believed to be voices of spirits.
Participants in the event also will be able to interact with ghost hunters as they investigate the library.
“It’s definitely going to be educational and interactive. I think it’s going to be very eye-opening,” Webster said.
Because the ghost hunt will be hosted as part of the Library After Hours Program, participants must be 21 or older. The program is grant funded and hosts events that are mainly targeted to college students.
Even though participants for the ghost hunt must be 21, there is a similar event at 3:45 p.m. on the same day that teens and young adults are welcomed to attend.
The event is free and no reservations are required.
