In 2008, President Barack Obama swept the nation up in his arms and promised us a brighter future with Hope and Change. With nearly 70 percent of the electoral votes won and the most voters actually getting out and voting in the history of our country, there were definitely high hopes. Using social networking and motivating young voters definitely helped his cause, but the biggest contributor was by far the promises he made and the hope he gave the people.
He made promises to close Guantanamo Bay (GITMO), expire the Bush tax-cuts, cut the deficit in half, bring unemployment below eight percent and invest in American Power.
He stated that Guantanamo Bay was a recruiting tool for Al Qaeda and he would close it immediately. The number of detainees continues to grow, and President Obama says he will close it as soon as possible. The truth is this vital military asset is key in our mission against terror and he cannot afford to close it forever. Broken Promise.
Next he said he would expire the Bush tax-cuts, and he found the only way to keep couples making less than $250,000 a year from paying more was to extend the tax-cuts. So he extended the very tax-cuts he promised to expire. The tax policy center says that the average household would pay up to $3,500 more in taxes if the tax-cuts are not extended once again. Broken Promise.
One of President Obama’s main topics in the election was that he would cut President Bush’s deficit — which was $500 billion dollars — in half. For four years straight we have had a deficit of more than $1 trillion, meaning he has doubled the deficit. Instead of keeping this promise, he tells America that he “inherited” this mess. Shouldn’t he have known what he was getting into before running? Broken Promise.
The president stated he would bring unemployment to 5.4 percent, and today, four years later, it is at 8.1 percent He tricks voters by saying, “I have created 5.2 million jobs in my term,” failing to mention that those 5 million jobs were first lost and now have been earned back. Broken Promise.
President Obama also promised to help solve the energy crisis. He has closed most offshore drilling, he declined the keystone pipeline (which would have created 2 million jobs), he gave green energy companies more than $90 billion in tax breaks (more than half went bankrupt) and now Americans are paying $3.66 a gallon. Broken Promise.
Are the promises he kept truly helping? The Healthcare bill passed costing more than $700 billion. There are 47 million Americans on food stamps. His tax regulations outside of the Bush tax-cuts are crushing small businesses. For all voters out there, are you going to believe President Obama’s promises again? Are you going to accept these results? A vote for Romney is a vote for real hope and change.
