Conference targets ideals of empowerment

The 2012 Women’s Leadership conference is a two-day event set to take place Nov. 9–10.

This year’s theme, “Finding your Voice,” focuses on empowering women to discover and adopt the five ideals of VOICE: value, opportunity, involvement, confidence and energy.

Friday night includes a dinner in the East and Middle Ballrooms after a welcome address from Sara Axelson. The University of Wyoming’s Women Professors of Distinction will be honored thereafter. The event will be followed by an 8:30 p.m. showing of the documentary “The Invisible War.”

Saturday will kick off with keynote speaker Elaine Penn, a leadership and community specialist who speaks at campuses across the country. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the presentation begins at 9 a.m.

Following the speech, a variety of workshops highlighting different ideals of finding VOICE will be offered. Three different workshop blocks each offer three separate options based on an individual’s specific interest.

The first workshop session options include Wendy Hart on energy, a culture and women’s values session, and a women artist panel involvement session. The second workshop block options include Ruth Williams on values, Rebecca Roberts on confidence and a volunteering panel on involvement. The third workshop session options feature Michelle Nicole Beracha on opportunity, Kimberly Lowe on energy, and the Wyoming Women’s Foundation on involvement.

The final workshop will end around 12:50 p.m. followed by a short closing presentation and an ice cream social.
