Leftist rhetoric about Republicans’ alleged “War on Women” comes across as nothing more than another desperate attack by Democrats to distract from this election’s relevant issues. For decades, the Democratic Party has pompously and inaccurately defined “women’s issues” and spoken on behalf of women as a whole, while conservative women respectfully bit their tongues. The Left does not represent women’s views, nor do they reserve the right to speak on their behalf for political gain.
Republican women defy and threaten every argument brought forth by the Left, which is perhaps why conservative women are either ignored or demonized by sexist attacks. Sarah Palin, Ann Romney and Michelle Bachmann come to mind. However, the tides are changing and women are onto the Democrats’ strategy, which is to distract voters from a failed president by publicizing a non-existent “War on Women.”
If Republicans are in fact waging a war on women, then why is it that the gender gap disappeared in the 2010 Republican landslide midterm elections? More Republican women were voted into the House than ever before, and Republicans won the women’s vote over Democrats 49 percent to 48 percent. Among likely voters in 2008, men were split 50/50 for Obama and McCain, while women were split 57/43 in the President’s favor. In 2012, Romney leads 57/43 among men, and picks up female support 46/54. The real gender gap that’s going to count in 2012 is that of men, who support Romney in an even larger margin than Obama has with women. Women are the Democrats’ No. 1 objective this fall, but the liberal message is not resonating like it did in 2008.
So why do the Democrats emphasize women? In short, Obama simply cannot afford to lose the female vote because running on the record of his first term is not “optimal.” The goal of the Obama campaign is to distract from the national debt, the unemployment rate and the Benghazi cover-up with class warfare babble and “War on Women” nonsense. If the President actually is passionate about pay discrimination like he suggests, he would address the fact that women in his own administration are paid 18 percent less than men. In addition to this Ledbetter lawsuit in the making, there are half million fewer women in the workforce, and 25 million American women are living in poverty. That’s an increase of 3.6 million women since 2008.
The Left will continue to point the finger at Republicans, but the fact of the matter is women are not falling for liberal lies anymore. It is time the President started listening. Women care about the economy, national security and America’s role in the future.
Not all women are pro-choice, and the Left’s assumption that women are simple-minded enough to base their vote on the existence of their “lady-parts” is degrading and offensive. The Romney-Ryan ticket is a fresh alternative to the Democrats’ sexist depictions of the female gender, which is why more women will be voting with their “lady-smarts” rather than their “lady-parts” on Nov. 6.
