Former mayor runs for City Council Ward 2: Joe Shumway

Joe Shumway, Laramie’s former mayor and president of the Laramie City Council from 2001-2003, will be placing his name back on the ballots this Tuesday as he runs for a position in the Ward 2 city council.

Aside from serving in Laramie, Shumway is a board member of both the National Committee for Public Safety and Crime Prevention and for the Wyoming Legislative Services for the Wyoming Association of Municipalities.

Shumway has made it a point throughout his campaign to come upon an agreement with the current issue concerning Laramie’s water supply. It is his hope to find a sensible formula that protects both property rights and the supply itself.

“The city and county residents have successfully dealt with water issues in the past,” Shumway said. “I am committed to finding an agreeable resolution to protect the Casper Aquifer.”

Though the budget Laramie has right now has been diminishing, Shumway believes that that does not mean we should not have excellent features throughout our community. If elected he feels that he can work with his staff and city council to assure the community first class services in utilities, streets, fire and police protection.

“I believe we can and will provide these exceptional city services even with declining revenues.” Shumway said.

The visions that Shumway has for our community are promising as he comes into this year’s elections. Laramie is seeking to make significant changes once members are chosen and if selected as a member, Shumway assures his community that he will not let them down.
