For the fourth time in a row and the 24th time in the trophy series, the bronze boot will be staying in Laramie. After a win on Saturday, the University of Wyoming football team showed it is not to be counted out yet.

The Cowboys beat Colorado State University 45-31, with UW scoring 21 points in the first quarter.  After a difficult season, the Cowboys came out of the Border War game with a win, and the home crowd was happy to celebrate with them. The locker room was loud and rowdy as the team ran in from its win and the bronze boot trophy ceremony right after the game.

The atmosphere was different. Everyone was smiling and talkative. Coach Dave Christensen even got a new haircut after he bet his players he would shave the sides of his head if they beat CSU.

“[This game] meant a lot to the seniors, this team and this state,” Nick Carlson said.

It seemed as if the freshmen all the way up to the seniors understood more than ever the importance of this game and the importance to keep the boot in Laramie. The CSU game always has been a draw for fans and is one of the most important games to a lot of people.

“[The CSU] game is about more than this football team. This game is about the state of Wyoming, the University of Wyoming, the fan base of the University of Wyoming, every player that’s played in the game, every athlete that has gone through here and played those guys. It’s big and it’s gonna remain big, and the trophy will remain here for the fourth straight year,” Christensen said.
