The University of Wyoming women’s volleyball team started off dancing and shaking all the jitters away for its match on Friday night against Colorado State University.

The student section filled up fast, along with every seat in the stadium. The rails became places for many more fans to watch the Cowgirls volleyball team take on CSU.

The Cowgirls were swept in three sets by CSU. For every set, however, they were within four to six points. The Cowgirls lost the first set 19-25, the second set 21-25 and the third set 19-25.

“We saw two great teams battle, and tonight CSU got us,” said Carrie Yerty, Cowgirl volleyball head coach. “They are a great team all around. I am proud of how our team battled and the competitive never-give-up attitude we showed tonight. Our fans and crowd was great tonight. It was such a great atmosphere for our team to play in.”

CSU has an overall record of 15-7, and in the Mountain West Conference it is 7-3. The Cowgirls are 17-10 overall but 4-7 in the conference, according to the UW Athletics website.

Jodi Purdy, outside hitter, became the all-time career leader in the Mountain West Conference in double-doubles in the CSU match. She now has 58. This was her 12th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 10 digs, according to UW Athletics.

“Jodi is an amazing leader, person and athlete, and is part of the reason this team has made such a turnaround in a short time,” Yerty said. “She is greatly is going to be missed around our program.”

Camille Coffman followed Purdy with five kills, according to UW Athletics. Erin Kirby led the team in blocks with four assisted. Also, Rachel Keyes had her 27th double-figure assist game of the season with 17.

The volleyball team will host Fresno State at 7 p.m. Thursday and UNLV at 6 p.m. Saturday.
