Chaundra Sewell, a senior on the women’s basketball team here at the University of Wyoming, is a self-described people person.

Sewell started playing basketball because her brothers started playing. She explained that she would follow in their footsteps, sports-wise. When her brother first started playing basketball, she wanted to play. When her brothers tried soccer and track and field, she did the same.

“I like to tell the little kids who come and clinics with us to play more than one sport. Don’t just play one,” Sewell said.

That idea of not choosing until you have tried a variety of options also has filtered into her academic life and future plans. Sewell decided on microbiology as a major because NCAA rules dictate that student athletes declare a major by junior year, but recently she changed from microbiology to physiology, with a second major in pharmacy.

She said the reason she chose pharmacy dates back to her junior year of high school. Her class went to a hospital, and professionals spoke to the class about their jobs. One woman who worked in the pharmacy spoke to the class and hooked Sewell on the profession.

“I’m the weird person who looks at gross pictures of hearts and muscles and gets grossed out but then will look again and find all of it super interesting,” Sewell said.

If she were not as busy as she is, Sewell said she would love to be outside just enjoying the open space.

“The open space was hard to get used to and comfortable with at first coming from Broomfield, Colo., but it’s grown on me since living here,” Sewell said.

Sewell said that her favorite movie is “A Goofy Movie” and she is secretly addicted to the show “Breaking Amish.”
