In the four-game season University of Wyoming football has set for itself, so far the team is 2-0. After the win against Colorado State University for the bronze boot, the Cowboys headed down to New Mexico and came back with another win.
The Cowboys fought hard this weekend for a 28-23 win over New Mexico. New Mexico has a record of 4-7, while Wyoming has an overall record of 3-7. New Mexico is 1-5 and Wyoming is 2-4 in the Mountain West Conference.
Brett Smith threw for 374 yards and four scores on Saturday. If that keeps up and he keeps connecting well with the receivers, then Wyoming could keep scoring and winning.
The Cowboys’ next target is University of Las Vegas, which UW will play next weekend in Nevada. Then the team sets its sights on San Diego State on Nov. 24 in Laramie.
UNLV has a conference record of 2-4, the same as Wyoming’s, but the real test for the Cowboys will be if they can beat San Diego State. The Aztecs have a record of 6-1, with their only loss to Fresno State.
Both Fresno State and San Diego State have the same conference records and the same overall records of 8-3. When Wyoming played Fresno State, UW lost and it was not pretty.
Wyoming still has a shot as long as it keeps the two-game winning streak and momentum going, but that last game of the season will be tough.
