Tonight, Friday Night Fever and the International Student Association present UW’s 2nd annual International Night. Starting at 8 p.m. in the Skylight Lounge, attendees can explore cultures from around the world.
The event will start off with international activities, crafts and educational tables. At 8:30, there will be an International Game PlayStation Competition in the Union Gardens. Dance and music performances also are scheduled at 9 p.m., with a pizza and international dessert distribution to follow.
“We’re a very dynamic group with just as much diversity in our music as is in our individual ethnicities,” Vikram Singh, lead singer of the night’s rock musical act, said. “We love what we do and we’re thankful to ISA and FNF for giving us a platform to present ourselves. We hope that through our riffs and rhythms we convey a message of universal peace and love to our audience on international night.”
International Education Week takes place annually in November. It is backed by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. This event allows the nation the opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.
The goal of this nationally recognized week is to promote programs that help Americans better understand and appreciate an international environment. The leaders of this organization also hope to attract individuals abroad to study with, learn from and exchange knowledge with those in the United States.
The government strongly encourages all people interested in international knowledge to participate in the celebration including schools, colleges and universities, embassies, international organizations, businesses, associations and community organizations
Throughout the week, the International Student Association had education booths in the Breezeway during lunch.
A ‘South East Asian Etiquette’ dinner will take place Saturday. Tickets are free and can be obtained at the Wyoming Union Information Desk Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m with a WyoOne card.
The union is decorated for International Education Week, which Friday Night Fever and the International Student Association decorated together. Washakie Dining Center also participated in the festivities with an International Dinner Thursday night.
“International Night supports the diversity at the university because we have a ton of international students and too often they stick to their own cliques and Americans stick to our own cliques, so we never truly learn about where the other people come from, so I think this event is very important in spreading knowledge about culture and definitely acceptance of diversity since that is everywhere,” Ashley Dallum, lead student programmer for the event, said.
In addition to International night, “The Bourne Legacy” starring Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton will be shown in the Union Family Room at 6:30, 9 and 11:30 p.m.
