Nick Carlson is a senior this year, and also is the University of Wyoming’s center for the football team.
Carlson stands tall at 6 feet 4 inches. He may be mean and tough when on the field but he is humble and funny when he is off.
Carlson has been nominated for many awards and honors playing football for UW. He also has been selected to the top-10 national finalists for the Awards and Recognition Association Sportsmanship award.
Carlson is the only player from UW and from the Mountain West Conference who is in the top-10.
“It’s a big honor to be nominated for such a prestigious award,” Carlson said. “The feeling that I was one of the top 10 out of all those other big-named guys was out of this world.”
This will be his second-consecutive season being named to the Rimington Trophy Preseason Watch List, the UW athletic website said.
Carlson has started 33 of 34 career games entering his senior season, including the last 25-consecutive games. He also is one of four team captains for the UW football team this year.
Carlson also is going to be graduating this spring with a degree in geography.
“I think when graduation comes around, the thing I’ll miss most is being around the guys,” Carlson said. “We are all one big dysfunctional family.”
Carlson did not play football until his freshman year of high school. He went on to play for the varsity team his junior and senior years of high school.
“I choose to come to Wyoming because I really wanted to play Division I football, and also because of the environment here,” Carlson said.
Carlson has had an amazing career here at UW and continues to have a great season this year. He may be mean on the field because of his position, but off the field he is anything but.
