Campus construction continues through the Spring 2014 semester. Some projects come to an end while more continue through the coming winter.
Campus construction updates include the Health Sciences Pharmacy Wing flood restoration. The majority of work was expected to near completion by Jan. 13.
The UW/Casper College Student Union’s primary building construction is complete. Technology, furniture, and furnishings are in the final stages of installation. Classes and services resumed Jan. 13.
Subgrade earthwork and foundation construction is complete of Half Acre Gym. Structural steel will begin to be added to the gym around Jan. 20. There will be temporary closures and traffic controls will be put into place to accommodate for heavy truck traffic. Structural steel as well as concrete trucks, earth moving equipment and other equipment will be frequenting the Half Acre area. It is advised to observe all posted traffic control, construction signs and flagging.
The Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center is scheduled for completion Fall 2014. Exterior framing of Legacy Hall is finished with the sheathing currently being installed. Metal panels are being installed on the exterior of the North side of the building and workers will be continuing counter clockwise around the building.
Renovations to the old Ross Hall cafeteria took about a semester longer than planned, but Rendezvous Café is now open to serve students and faculty breakfast, lunch and coffee. The
The Ross Hall cafeteria used to not have the ability to cook food in their facility. They were only able to warm food that was brought from elsewhere on campus.
Rendezvous now has three separate serving stations, each with its own menu and specialized cooking equipment. The stations are the Caliente grill, Nellies Deli, and Sizzling Salads.
The Caliente grill serves Mexican food, which has been in high demand according to Eric Webb, the Director of Dining Services. The Caliente Grill also offers a hot breakfast.
“It’s kind of a big deal because we didn’t have an outlet for hot breakfast on the retail side of campus,” Webb said.
The breakfast food will include breakfast burritos, biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches and other items.
Nellies deli offers custom sandwiches as well as daily specialty sandwiches. There is also a Turbo Chef Oven available to toast the sandwiches.
In the Sizzling Salads they cook a protein to add to the salads. You could get your chicken, tofu or other meat heated to compliment your meal.
Compared to Ross Hall cafeteria, Rendezvous has room to seat 45 more customers. The prices of entrees will remain close to the same. The coffee bar is almost unchanged, but looks a lot better.
“We hope that Rendezvous will help bleed off business from the Union lines,” said Webb, “the Union business was over capacity and this space was under-utilized.”
Rendezvous will bring a new atmosphere to the campus. With newer, more comfortable furniture and a better heating system it will provide a place for students and faculty to meet over breakfast, coffee, or lunch.
