I just looked through the new photo gallery for Arena Auditorium, and all I have to say is if you are not there on Sunday against Northern Colorado you are a damn fool.
Holy smokes, dollars well spent Burman. The beauty of the new yellow seats, the new video board and the new court is borderline bone chilling. The capacity did go down by about 500 seats with the renovations, but who gives a rat’s ass. I fully expect successful seasons from the Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls basketball teams, where both should finish top three in the Mountain West Conference. Residents of Laramie and the state of Wyoming should enjoy these programs. At least they’ll win something unlike a certain football program.
So why is the AA not packed every night? We could enjoy the greatest home court advantage in the nation. There is absolutely not a doubt in my mind it could be. The Dome of Doom. Think about the logistics of it. First, the stadium is underground. Only the top of the auditorium sticks out of the ground. The dome is also made of only concrete. How is it possible that sound escapes?! A half full AA is among the loudest environments I have been in. Now double that. No road team would ever come in here and communicate! How many games would we lose in a season at the AA? One? Two? Only the truly elite teams could figure out how to play here.
Then there’s also the notion that we play at a higher elevation, 7220 feet. Teams from sea level would not only battle extreme crowd noise, but they would exhaust themselves by the end of the first half. Oh god, the idea is making me drool. But, we cannot have nice things in Laramie. Why? Not enough students go to the games. Hey numbskulls, it’s free! Get your lazy Cowboy or Cowgirl ass out of your room and head down to AA. Basketball games are also not sad and cold. They are loud, inside and will result in more wins than not.
I am not here to be preachy and say you guys are terrible fans, but come on. If you want a premiere program, whether it be basketball or football, there needs to be an obvious outpouring of support. It starts with the re-opening of the AA. We need to fill the Dome of Doom.
