The University of Wyoming Soccer team was unable to capitalize on the 21 shots they took as they ended up drawing with the University Northern of Iowa on Aug. 24.
The Cowgirls were the aggressors for most of the game by keeping the ball primarily on the UNI side of the field. UNI goalkeeper Jami Reichenberger was kept busy by Wyoming’s 21 shots, many of which ended up going wide or high, and was able to save all 9 shots that were on goal.
UNI did not have as many opportunities, but they were able to get 11 shots off, four of which were on goal. Wyoming goalkeeper Christin Salazar was able to save those four shots that were on goal.
Wyoming would get four shots off in the first 6 minutes of the game but two would miss the goal and the others would be saved by Reichenberger.
At the 11-minute mark of the game the starting midfielder for Wyoming, Summer Taube, would go down and the play would be stopped. Taube would be assisted off the field. Taube would return 25 minutes into the game and would end up playing a total of 59 minutes.
During the final minute of regulation UNI had the ball in the attacking half of the field and were trying to score and win the game at the very end. A shot by Hannah McDevitt of UNI would clang off the cross bar with only 30 seconds remaining in regulation just missing out on being the hero for UNI.
Regulation time would run out and the two teams would play the first overtime lasting 10 minutes. Neither side would gain the advantage and a second 10-minute overtime would be played.
Once again neither side would score the goal need to win and the teams would end the day with a draw. Wyoming soccer will be back in action on Aug. 30 when they travel to Pocatello, Idaho to take on Idaho State.
