Strengthening and engaging the community in volunteerism, the Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement (SLCE) department works toward a better future for the Laramie community one step at a time.
SLCE will host a volunteer fair at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 in the Simpson Family Plaza outside of the Wyoming Union.
While the fair is advertised as an opportunity for undergraduate students to get involved in service around the Laramie Community, SLCE aims to dig even deeper than that by providing students with an outlet to give back.
During the 2018-2019 academic year, SLCE had roughly 1,001 volunteers who contributed approximately 5,110 hours of community service within the SLCE program. SLCE organizers want to continue this trend by getting more students interested in serving the Laramie community.
Shelby Kennedy, the senior project coordinator for SLCE, said she hopes to “connect students to service and leadership opportunities in the Laramie community through events like the Volunteer fair.”
While SLCE is hosting the volunteer fair, the overall goal of the volunteer fair is to get students involved in volunteering community-wide, not just through SLCE.
“SLCE hosts a variety of dynamic programs and collaborative experiences aimed at cultivating engaged global citizens,” Kennedy said.
“These programs include leadership classes, service opportunities, alternative breaks, and a series of workshops on activism.”
SLCE values passion, social justice, growth, integrity, and community, which is what they plan to show students at the volunteer fair.
