The Wyoming men’s golf team finished second at the recent Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins out of a field of 17 teams.
Placing three individuals in the top 30, the Cowboys began the tournament in second place following the first round. Sophomore Kirby Coe-Kirkham lead the team with a 16th place finish.
“All-in-all a good tournament for us. To finish second out of 17 teams is something to be proud of with a young group.,” said Joe Jensen, University of Wyoming Director of Golf and Head Men’s Golf Coach. “We’ve been relevant in our first two tournaments of the year, which is a good beginning that we can build on. We certainly have things we can work on, but overall I saw good things from our team.
“We’re playing solid and the competitiveness I’ve seen from our guys is encouraging. I like the work and the effort the guys are putting in. We had three different players shoot our low round of the day in each round, and really all of our guys have that potential to be our low man on any given day. Our next tournament at New Mexico will feature a really good field of teams, so it will be a good next challenge for us.”
Coach Joe Jensen said the team has been going into each event with a winning attitude no matter the result. The team has been staying humble and has high hopes for the rest of the season.
Jensen said the members of the team that Cowboy Fans should be looking out for are lone senior Dan Starzinski and sophomore Kirby Coe-Kirkham. Both players have been showing outstanding leadership this season and are the leading members for the current raster.
The golf team has 10 remaining tournaments, including the Mountain West Conference tournament. Their next tournament is Sept. 27 and 28 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
