Second quarter changes game dynamics

The Wyoming Cowboys, now 4-1 for the first time since 2007, scored 53 points to hold off the University of Nevada Las Vegas to 17.

“The second quarter changed the whole dynamics of the game and the pace of the game.” UW Coach Craig Bohl said.

While the defense kept forcing out turnovers from their end, the offense put up six straight scoring possessions before the first half ended. Redshirt freshman quarterback Sean Chambers led the second quarter with a 17-yard rushing touchdown following freshman Titus Swen’s career high 59-yard carry. This gave the Cowboys the permanent lead of the game.

In total, the offense recorded 498 yards, a season high. Both Swen and Chambers would go onto to have a 100-yard game, Swen’s first of his career.

“The turnover margin was in our favor and our rushing certainly had an impact,” Bohl said.

The defense forced major turnovers during the course of the game. They kept the Rebels from scoring for two straight quarters, complete with three interceptions and two sacks in the game. seniors Logan Wilson and Cassh Maluia as well as freshman Rome Weber all recorded interceptions at various parts of the game.

The 4-1 Wyoming Cowboys will be back Oct. 12 in a game against San Diego State at 8:30 pm in San Diego, California.
