Brad LaCroix, the superintendent of the Weston County School District 1 in Newcastle, Wyoming has been appointed to the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees. Appointed by Governor Mark Gordon, LaCroix is now the twelfth member of the Board of Trustees.

The Trustees are composed of twelve members that serve staggered six year terms. Their responsibilities range anywhere from university policy work to university budgetary manners, with the best interest of the university in mind.

LaCroix was appointed in place of Wava Tully, who resigned in November of 2019. He will begin his term at the next Board of Trustees meeting Feb. 19 and will serve until 2025.

LaCroix began his education career in South Dakota, but later moved on to Palm Springs and continued to work in education. LaCroix worked as an elementary school physical education teacher and as a high school basketball coach in Palm Springs.

“I started teaching in South Dakota, then went and taught in Palm Springs, California, and I have been in Newcastle ever since,” he said.

While he was furthering the education of youth, LaCroix also worked to obtain his master’s degree in Education Administration from California State University-San Bernardino.

After working in Palm Springs, LaCroix moved on to Newcastle. LaCroix started working in Newcastle as the athletic director and assistant principal within the high school and then worked as the principal for ten years. He is currently serving as the superintendent of the Weston County School District. LaCroix continues to work towards furthering the minds of the youth and heavily emphasizes the importance of education.

As a new member of the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees, LaCroix said he intends to put an emphasis on education while furthering his own education by learning how he can contribute to the board itself.

“My biggest thing is a huge learning curve,” LaCroix said. “I want to represent the educational piece and I want to connect and understand what Wyoming has to offer.”

LaCroix views his new position on the Board of Trustees as a new learning opportunity and wishes to both better himself and the Board as he continues on in this position.

“The overall goal is to make the University, which is already good, even better,” he said. “I want to make sure that I leave it better than when I came.”
