This summer has gone by in the blink of an eye. It feels like June just started yesterday, and suddenly we are finding ourselves at the beginning of August. Why does time always go so quickly during the best months of the year?
Thankfully, summer is not quite over and there is still time for warm-weather activities. If you haven’t gone for a refreshing hike yet, now is your chance. Check out the following trails, listed in no particular order, and spend a relaxing day in nature.
Turtle Rock Trail, Vedauwoo
This beautiful trail is close to Laramie and is filled with gorgeous plant life. It’s hard to beat the amazing rock formations at Vedauwoo, and you might see some wildlife as well. The trail is both easy to find and to hike.
Plus, if you don’t have time to hike this summer, don’t worry – Turtle Rock Trail is just as stunning in the fall thanks to the abundance of trees changing color.
Lost Lake Trail, Medicine Bow
Named for its amazing view, this trail takes hikers upwards toward Lost Lake. You’ll definitely get some fresh air on this hike, as the high point is just over 10,900 feet.
This trail is the perfect place for spectacular views of the forest and mountains. Lost Lake in the sun is a sight to behold. Make sure to enjoy the beauties of this trail before the weather gets too chilly.
Gap Lakes Trail, Medicine Bow
If you’re looking for a scenic hike, this is most certainly trail for you. The trail crosses from South Gap Lake to North Gap Lake, all while being surrounded by gorgeous views of the Snow Range mountains.
This trail does have some rocky areas, so be sure to wear the proper hiking shoes. Thankfully, the scenery on this hike is completely worth traveling through the rockier parts.
Happy Jack and Tie City Trailheads
Both of these trailheads are extremely close to Laramie and can be accessed with a quick trip down I-80 east. They lead to a variety of trails for hiking, biking and skiing in the winter. Trails include Aspen Trail, Meadow Trail, Haunted Forest Trail and Summit Trail.
Conveniently close and filled with trails ranging in difficulty levels for different hikers, these trailheads are a must-visit during the summer.
Medicine Bow Peak
If you’re interested in a bit of a more challenging hike with rewarding views, the Medicine Bow Peak trail is perfect. This trail will take you to the highest point in the Snowy Range mountains at just over 12,000 feet.
You will have a stunning view of the lakes and plant life within the mountain range. It’s a great way to spend a day off in the summer.
Now’s the time to pack your backpack with tasty snacks, fill up your water bottle, lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails. The scenery in Wyoming is hard to beat, and the variety of trails near Laramie make it easy to enjoy these stunning views.
