The Laramie community will have the opportunity to dress in their spookiest, funniest, and fanciest costumes at the Art Museum’s Halloween Costume party on Friday, Oct. 29 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
“I’ve seen some advertising for it, and it looks interesting,” senior Josiah Bryan said. “I think it could be something fun to look into.”
“We hope to show the Laramie community that the UW Art Museum is not only a place for art and education, but for gathering and fun as well,” art museum senior office associate Brenna Powell said.
The free event will be complete with a costume contest, a DJ and food. According to Powell, the costume contest is the part that the museum staff is looking forward to the most.
Judging is at 8 p.m. with prizes for the top three costumes.
“I feel like it could be a way for students to show off their costumes if they want to,” Bryan said. “Any costume contest is fun and especially if there are prizes involved.”
The museum is located at 2111 E Willett Dr.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to walk through the art galleries at the museum. The museum displays a variety of art from local artists as well as those from around the world.
“Pop Warriors” features pop culture spins on 2,000-year-old terracotta soldiers excavated in China.
Artist Lizabeth Eva Rossof created this exhibit by reimagining the ancient terracotta warriors with the heads of famous pop icons from the modern-day.
The gallery also includes work from Colin Parson. A Denver-based artist who creates art using light, color, and shape. Specifically in a medium known as moiré.
Alongside these pieces, the museum is presenting a collection of paintings by artists Harold Garde and Ron Kroutel that “entice the viewer to look more closely, to question the details and uncover what is being presented,” according to the art museum website.
According to Powell, the museum also holds a number of other pieces from the museum collection and faculty artists that will be on display as well.
These exhibits include the “UW Visual Arts Faculty Exhibition”, the “Pat Guthrie Teaching Gallery”, and “Reframing Identity.
In addition to the prizes and food offered at the party, Powell also says that UW students will be able to sign up for a free museum membership which comes with special benefits.
