Instagram account bathrooms.of.uwyo organized a petition to put lava lamps in bathrooms across the University of Wyoming campus.
“First, we want to make a post highlighting that we fulfilled our goal, and then maybe we will invest in a lava lamp to randomly rotate between bathrooms across campus,” Professor P, co-founder of Bathrooms.of.uwyo said.
The petition met its original goal of 100 signatures on Feb. 20 and is now striving for 200. As of Feb. 24, it has 128 signatures.
“It’s not something you see every day, so if it could actually happen I would love to see a lava lamp pop up in a bathroom on campus,” Joseph Kostelecky, a finance major and an avid follower of bathrooms.of.uwyo, said.
Professor P, the founder of bathrooms.of.uwyo, said that to celebrate their success of 100 petition signatures they may start rotating an old lava lamp between bathrooms on campus.
“Honestly, we made the petition to have fun,” Professor P said.
The lava lamp petition was born after Professor P and the team noticed that contemporary designs of newer buildings on campus come across as bland.
“It was the bathroom of floor 2 of the EER building that sparked something,” Professor P said. “To be exact, it needed a homey touch.”
Decor is one of four categories that Professor P rates bathrooms on in their Instagram posts. The other three ratings include stench factor, cleanliness, and overall feel.
“We knew we wanted it to be funny, kind of ironic even,” Professor P said. “Of course, we included serious elements like decor and cleanliness but then the idea of stench came along.”
However, Professor P said they would not be as successful without the help of their Team Associate.
“I send photos to Professor P since they are in charge of the rating system,” T.A. said. “Otherwise, I post stories, create memes, and respond to all of our DMs.”
T.A. is also in charge of a regular posting schedule and outreach for their account.
“We want to make a big shoutout to Barstool Wyoming,” T.A. said. “It wasn’t until they shared it to their story, it was a picture of the bathrooms in the College of Business, that our page really took off.”
The Instagram account now has 700 followers and is steadily increasing.
“Of course we want it to expand, but we are so content with what we have now,” T.A. said. “We are even trying to establish a consistent schedule by posting every Tuesday and Thursday to meet Instagrams’ algorithm.”
