University of Wyoming President Ed Seidel made history when he announced that he would become the first president to be reappointed by the Board of Trustees in 12 years. Starting July 1, 2023, Seidel will begin his second term at UW, which will last three years.
“I was truly honored to be reappointed by the Board of Trustees in January for another three-year term, and I am enthusiastic about where we can together take this institution in the future,” Seidel wrote in an email to campus staff.
“Unlike my first term, rife with urgent crises, I feel we’ve turned a corner, and we’re truly entering a new era, with many reasons to be excited.”
Seidel started at UW in the fall of 2020 and since then has dealt with issues such as COVID-19, budget cuts, and the rise of Artificial Intelligence. But despite these hurdles, Seidel is hopeful of what’s to come.
“He really feels like we’re in such a good place to make progress on some of our big goals. We have a new strategic plan now that’s going to guide us into the future. And so he’s really optimistic about the future for UW and is looking forward to a second term that is hopefully a bit more stable,” Chief of Staff Kelsey Kyne said.
Going into his second term, Seidel has received support from the State Legislature. UW secured funding to renovate dorms, athletics facilities, and other buildings across campus. These funds will also help to increase staff salaries across the board.
According to the press release sent to campus faculty, more information regarding staff raises will be addressed in coming weeks.
