As Craig Bohl readies for his last game as a head coach, colleagues and peers are reflecting on his last few days with the program and how the team is preparing.
“I think that it’s finally starting to stick and starting to register with him a little bit,” said Senior Associate AD Randy Welniak. “I’m sure he’ll get very emotional and I hope our team will respond to that and I’m sure they will play well.”
With such a big build-up to a bowl game and pressure to win for Bohl, the team is handling it well. “They’ve been pretty even keeled. There are a lot of veterans that have been here before and know what to expect,” said Welniak. “There’s an additional incentive for them to win this game because of Coach Bohl.”
“In the world we are living in right now with the transfer portal and NIL activity, having continuity and consistency has helped the team get to this point,” said Welniak. With only one starter from this season not playing on Saturday, nearly the whole team is here for the anticipated matchup, and will be right behind the coach that has led them all season.
Even Toledo athletic director Bryan Blair had good things to say about the program. “Thank you Wyoming. You guys are stand up [fans] and I have so much respect for Coach Bohl and what he’s built.”
Wyoming athletics director Tom Burman got the fans fired up for the game and reminded them of the stakes. “ Way to show up Cowboy Nation,” Burman said. “We got to show up for Coach Bohl. He’s done so much for this state and he’s got to go out on a win,” he concluded his passionate rally speech.
With all the emotions surrounding the contest, it has so much potential to be an exciting conclusion to the long and storied career of Craig Bohl.
