On Nov. 24, the University of Wyoming Men’s Hockey Team took the ice against Nebraska. The ending score was 3 Nebraska, and 8 Wyoming.
Ian Bullard, captain of the team, said “It wasn’t a great game. We are soft. We came in expecting to dominate this team, and we didn’t. We just had no attention to detail. We didn’t play at the level we can play at.” While the team did get a win, the team was not up to the standards set for them. Nebraska, who just moved up a division, was not a concern for the team.
The first period consisted of three goals from Wyoming and one from Nebraska. First-period goals were scored by Ian Bullard, Luke Moore, and Mario Rodriguez. Rodriguez scored during a power play, as a result of a Nebraska Penalty.
In the second period, the UW Hockey team came out with energy. They scored three goals in the first 5 minutes of the period. These goals were scored by Ian Bullard, Mario Rodriguez, and Aaron Gallant. Nebraska combated this, scoring one goal as well. Club President Evan Heck said about the changes from the first to second periods, “We just came out with more energy. We woke up and then fell asleep again at the end. We have to fix that.”
To end the game, UW scored two more goals made by Luke Moore and Ian Bullard. Nebraska also made one goal. There were three penalties called on UW during the third period.
Luke Moore said, “We have to work on picking up our intensity, making sure we are able to keep it through all three periods. We just have to make sure we are playing the game, and playing it physically.” The University of Wyoming Men’s Hockey Team is happy to have a win under their belt, but claims they need to play better to get more.
“We can compete with the top teams in the nation if we come to play and work hard,” said Bullard.
The University of Wyoming Men’s Hockey team will go on to play the University of Colorado in two weeks.
