The Blockchain Club at the University of Wyoming focuses on offering students education and experience within the field of blockchain, including teachings on cryptocurrency and business applications.
According to Nathaniel Rieger, the Treasurer of the Blockchain Club, blockchain is, “a Google sheet that you can’t delete… in other words, a new kind of database with unique uses within business.”
When asked why he joined the club, Rieger said, “After I took the course and found that blockchain had a lot of depth to it, I joined the club to broaden my horizons.”
Additionally, the club offers a Blockchain Seminar open to all UW staff, faculty, and students, as well as opportunities to hear from guest speakers and attend blockchain conferences.
Just last year, the club hosted Aleo, a zero-knowledge-proof company based in Wyoming, and sent 15 students to the EthDenver blockchain conference.
“The most applicable part of the club is networking,” Rieger said, “I get to meet several legislatures from UW… you just get exposed to so much information you didn’t think of before.”
Blockchain Club is especially useful to any students majoring in business or finance but is open to anyone interested in learning more about this emerging industry.
“I’m also studying accounting, it’s crazy how much crossover between several industries there is,” Rieger said.
A few of those industries include computer science and business management, the fields of study of one of the Blockchain Club’s newest members.
“Blockchain has a lot of overlap with the field of computer science, and part of my personal development is to try to add onto my business applications, so this was just a natural fit,” the anonymous member said, “I’m looking forward to seeing what this club is all about after taking the class.”
Overall, students looking for excellent networking and hands-on learning in the field of blockchain may be interested in visiting the Blockchain Club.
The Blockchain Club meets every Thursday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Room 129 of the College of Business with refreshments provided.
