Tabletop Roleplay Games (TTRPG) such as D&D, have been popular for a long time. It’s only fitting that there be a club for it here at the university. Role For Initiative is the space for any tabletop gamer that wants to find like minded individuals.
“It’s a really cool club because you can be as active as you want to be. We’re working really hard on making a community,” acting club president Gabriel Russell said.
Role For Initiative is not just a D&D club, though.
“We include Pathfinder and D&D, but there’s also a Middle Earth TTRPG that I’ve been wanting to run, and there’s a Star Wars one. Some people have even been wanting to get into a Warhammer game. There’s a lot you can play,” Russell said.
The club runs campaigns on Sunday nights in the basement of the Union. Sessions usually last for two to three hours, depending on the group’s schedules. If you aren’t looking to find a new campaign to join, you can also use Role For Initiative to build up your own existing groups.
“Our club’s strength is helping people find games. It’s a really fun and easy way to find a player that you’re missing, or two or three, and start getting a campaign going. We can help you set up a Discord server for it and you can just have at it,” Russell said.
If you’re too nervous to jump right into the deep end with TTRPGs, you can also go to the club meetings and play board games. “We’ve taken on the role of the unofficial board game club as well,” Russell said.
The club is open to anyone, student or not, and encourages people to meet others with similar interests and hobbies. The club accepts members of all skill levels, so there’s no need to stress if you’ve never played a TTRPG before.
“A couple weeks from now, we’re going to do an “Intro To D&D” night. You come, you make a character and then play with that character for a couple of hours. It will be on a Saturday, usually three to seven in the basement of the Union, and we’re still figuring out the exact date, but it will be announced on our Discord server,” Russell said.
