The University of Wyoming will be putting on a fashion show, showcasing the design students work, on May 3., in the Union.
This is not the first UW fashion show to be put on. “The fashion show is annual. It’s been going on for 10 years now. It’s put on by the design students. It gives them an opportunity to showcase their outfits,” said Yaz McNeely, one of the class house managers helping to put on the show. The UW fashion show has turned into a tradition to give the design students more recognition for their work.
“The designs really depend on what the students create. Everyone has their own inspiration. There are a lot of different types of outfits, sometimes upcycled, sometimes brand new, sometimes theater outfits because we have some theater students. It really just depends on what they want to do,” said McNeely. Students in the design program have been working on their outfits all semester and now get a chance to partake in an official fashion show, to show the public their unique work.
Mcneely said, “The theme for this year is ‘All That Jazz’.The theme is more for decor rather than what you see on the runway. Runway is kind of our separate thing.” The models are members of the community that respond to the model call. Once they come, the design students will be able to pick the model they want to showcase their design.
The fashion show will be taking place May 3. in the upstairs of the Union. The event is free for everyone. They will be hosting a cocktail hour in the beginning of the show, which will be first come first serve.
McNeely hopes students will attend the upcoming fashion show. “Especially at that time of year, it’s a really good stress reliever. It’s really cool for people to come see the design students and what they do. We are small, so not a lot of people know we exist, or the work we do. It’s just a fun and free night,” said McNeely.
The UW fashion show is a great way to show support to the students in the design program, while also taking some stress off the last month of school.
